Last year, I decided to write for 30 days on Medium.
Even when I was on holidays, I managed to post.
And then, I stopped.
Why? What had I proved to myself?
What I got out of it
Validation that I do enjoy writing, that I want to get my ideas out in the world (or the abyss of the internet). It was interesting to see which topics resinated with people and to discover like minded strangers.
What I didn’t like
I didn’t enjoy feeling like I’m writing for a specific audience and optimizing for views and reactions. Should I write what I want, or what the people want? Medium is about writing what the people want. I didn’t like worrying about the algorithm or feeling like I need to interact with other people’s posts in order to give mine visibility.
Still, by the end of 30 days, I was getting $10 roughly from my articles. Not bad. I wonder what that number would have grown to if I had kept at it.
What now?
Now, I will write in my blog. For me (and you I guess). For 100 days (!!) and see what happens. It could be about food. It could be my travel itinerary. It could be about life. Who knows.
